Rank Information
E Rank
E Rank is the rank that everyone begins their journey. It is, like you expect, the weakest rank of player character. Examples of E rank characters are newly born Adjuchas and Unseated Shinigami. Being a player character does afford you the right to be stronger than NPCs of a similar rank and allows you to control them, but please do not over-play an E ranked character. You are still the weakest on the totem pole.
D Rank
D Rank is the second rank up from the bottom. E rank characters have now progressed into being useful and can play more meaningful positions in the world. Some examples would be an intermediate skill fullbringer, a Seated officer in the Gotei 13, and a hollow that has become more aware of his ability. D Rank Characters are by no means powerhouses, but they can hold their own against most soldier class NPCs. The difference between D rank and E rank is not huge, but it is progress.
C Rank
C Rank is the Intermediate power level rank. Player characters have progressed to the point that they can take a more leader-like position to the D and E ranks. As such, some examples of C ranks would be new to intermediate Lieutenant class shinigami, newly born arrancar, veteran adjuchas, and skilled quincy. The difference between C rank and D rank is significant.
B Rank
B Rank is the skilled combatant rank. Characters that have reached this level are the best of their class. It is the rank that many unlockables become available. Advanced Lieutenants and very early Captains are typically on this level. Hollows can also evolve at this rank. Skills become more pronounced and dangerous and stats go way up. The difference between B rank and C rank is rather large in the later stages.
A Rank
A Rank is the rank that characters become truly powerful. Intermediate Captains and Newer vasto lordes are at A rank. Quincy at this level have unlocked their potential and become a nightmare for hollows. Powers unlocked at previous levels are starting to be mastered and skills become far more deadly. The difference in A rank and B rank is rather large. B rank combatants would have a hard time standing a slight chance against A ranked characers.
S Rank
S Rank is the master rank. Characters that have reached this level have become veteran captains that have seen much combat. They have mastered most of the abilities their class has to offer. Killing machines, the abilities of these characters are about as deadly as they get, combining power, speed, and reiatsu to destroy enemies. The difference between S rank and A rank is very large. S ranked characters can often take on two A ranked characters without facing much disadvantage.
S+ Rank
S+ Rank is the heroic rank. Only the strongest of the strong ever reach this level of mastery. Characters at this level are prodigies at almost everything and are so rare, it is not uncommon to never see one in 500 years. Some examples of this type of character would be Vasto lordes transformed into arrancar, the most powerful captains, and the leaders of some of the races. The difference between S+ rank and S rank is significant. S+ rank characters can fight multiple A ranked characters at once, and possibly two S ranked characters. This is the highest rank a player character can achieve.
EX Rank
EX Rank is the top of the food chain. Player characters cannot actually reach this rank at this time. It is reserved for important story-class characters and NPCs. Characters at this rank are absolute monsters capable of tearing other characters to shreds and laughing at attacks thrown at them by the lower ranks. The difference between EX rank and S+ rank is significant. An example of EX class characters can be found in Canons. The captain commander is an EX rank character.
